What's in the box III - Return of the Boxinator...

Welcome to another edition of 'What's in the box'?!

'What dwelleth in thy carry case this time?' I hear you ask... The Court of the Fisher King of course! :)

I required a form of transportation for The Fisher King and his Knights - although I have not fully completed the force (see below), I wanted to get their transport ready so that I can use them for the first time!

The intention was to build them into a viable 2000 point force for games of Warhammer 40,000 - this didn't prove too difficult as they're not the cheapest units to field!  I chose the House Krast affiliation as that fitted the intended play style of the force.

As it now stands, the final line up for the banner and its support staff is as follows:

Imperial Knight Super Heavy Detachment (House Krast affiliation)

The Fisher King (Cerastus Knight Lancer) - Character, The Headsman's Mark (Heirloom), First Knight (Warlord Trait)
Piloted by Count Octillus Hiralden

The Old Baron (Questoris Knight Mageara) - Hekaton Siege Claw, Plasma Fusil
Piloted by 'Mad' Baron Pellinore

Shellback (Armiger Warglaive) - Meltagun
Piloted by Patrcocles Hiralden
Tidebreaker (Armiger Warglaive) - Meltagun
Piloted by Ivraine Hiralden

Barracuda Squall (Dominus Knight Valiant) - 1 Siegebreaker Cannon, 2 Siegebreaker Missile Racks
Piloted by Sir Ahabius Parcival

Supporting Patrol Detachment

Sacristan Nautolex (Techpriest Engineseer)
The Pike (Sydonian Dragoon)
Skitarii Aquis (6 Skitarii Rangers) - Alpha with Arc Maul & Arc Pistol, 1 Arc Rifle

Made to look like a heavily weathered equipment crate in the Fisher King's colours, I'm pleased with how it ended up!
You can see the decoration and carry chain from the top...
The chain is steel so is pretty darn heavy!
It's basically a decorated plastic storage box - here you can see the chain removed and locking clips opened...
...allowing the lid to be removed, revealing the first layer in the box
With the gaming accessories removed, you can see the heavily weathered wooden 'lid' I made from salvaged planks.  The handles were black iron bought from a hardware store.
Once removed with the handles, the wooden lid can be flipped to reveal hooks and banding which can carry other accessories.
Here are the main accessories; a decorated notebook for jotting down my many future victories (*or multitudinous defeats), a stripped down and repainted Stanley tape measure, a plastic token box and a wooden box.  All are decorated with the symbols and colours of The Fisher King.
Inside, you can see the 'grubby' dice etc. which I weathered with my secret mucky paint mix :)
And at the bottom of the box are the Knights and Support Staff.  I made a specially cut layer of thick EVA foam which secures all of the models inside the case.  Although the final models are assembled and primed, you'll have to wait for a future post to see them completed!

 War on a weeny scale!

I have now completed my first Adeptus Titanicus scale miniature and am very proud of the final result.  I basically miniaturised every element of Ferrum Dominus (my 28mm scale Reaver Titan).  It took quite a while, especially the base which I had to build from scratch!

Behold Ferrum Dominus.  A long way away...
I even replicated the tiny toolbox behind the defence line.  It's possible I have started showing signs of madness...
I mimicked the 40k pose as closely as possible - it's testament to the plastic kit that this was even possible!
As well as the shells and detritus on the base, I made the arm banners which were a key part of the look of his larger incarnation!
Mother and baby parking available!
Getting the chevrons to match was also a bit of a pain!
Side by side, you can see how well they match up.  Note that I also cut and fitted tiny transparent green eye lenses to match.  This was a right ball ache but worth it!
It was important to me that the colour scheme and decals matched perfectly...
...including the black and white cog around the carapace weapon mount.  Getting the rust pattern to match actually worked out a little easier than I expected!

And in other news...

I completed my build of Drycha Hamadreth - I made a couple of minor changes.  Although Sylvaneth don't generally wear armour, I really wanted her features to be hidden behind a carved mask.  In addition, I felt the need to cover her tree boobies as it seemed a little silly to leave her 'real' body vulnerable within her tree construct if I'd given her a helm!  I sculpted a wooden Basque over her chest, and added a couple of additional branches on her back as she had a little less bulk with the loss of her original vine-hair.

I like the unpredictable, unknowable qualities which the helm grants Drycha
Can't wait to get her painted...

TideBreaker and The Royal Court

From the depths they rise!

Anyone familiar with my blog can't have failed to notice my Imperial Knights; chief among them being The Fisher King.  I've now completed the third Knight in this little collection: Tidebreaker.

As well as showing off some pictures of her, I've included some extra pictures of the group and of her brother Knight Shellback and also some more details around the concept and their background -  Enjoy! :)

The Protectors of Corbenic

The world of Corbenic was settled thousands of years before the reclaiming of the galaxy by humanity during the great crusade.

Its original colonisation in the Age of Technology required the construction of vast artificial continents.  These colossal landmasses were created then garrisoned by a massive cohort of Imperial Knights which had been specially modified to cope with the unusual demands of the rich oceans that they would need to traverse.

Although cut off from the rest of mankind during The Age of Strife, Corbenic weathered the horrors of Old Night, but only with substantial losses to its Knightly orders.  When the Great Crusade reached Corbenic, the planet appeared untainted by the warpstorms which had ravaged so many other planetary systems.

But to believe that the only danger the colonists faced lay with the capricious tides of the warp would be folly.  Despite its natural beauty and bountiful seas, Corbenic required the massed deployment of Knight Armour for good reason.  For within the oceans dwell gigantic beasts; titans of the vast seas, who's attentions leave only destruction in their wake.

The mightiest of these creatures patrol the oceans in search of prey and jealously guard their territories - woe betide any careless freighter venturing out into the great dark Corbenician seas without adequate sonar detection and countermeasures...

Attrition from hunting these great beasts slowly saw the armoured Knights dwindle until but a few remained.  It is said that when the God-Emperor himself set foot upon Corbenic, he charged the remaining Knights with the sacred duty of protecting this majestic realm.  For the Emperor knew that now the storms of the warp had abated, other jealous eyes would fall upon the rich waters of Corbenic, thinking to claim its riches for themselves.

And so, in the 41st millennium, only a handful of Imperial Knights remain, loyally patrolling their homeworld, endlessly vigilant, forming The Court of the Fisher King.

Designation: Tidebreaker
Chassis: Armiger Warglaive
Piloted by: Ivraine Hiralden; Daughter of the Count, Warrior Mistress of the Isles.

Striding over the sandy shores, Tidebreaker is ever watchful...
As with the other Knights in this collection, Tidebreaker proudly bears the symbol of her house
A huge Harpoon cannon replaces the original thermal lance, with a spare shaft stowed underneath
A smaller, slender looking harpoon launcher replaces the traditional Armiger chainsword for close quarter fighting
The carapace of Tidebreaker is heavily weathered from years of hunting the great beasts of Corbenic within their aquatic lairs...
Each of the Armigers have an anchor which they deploy when hunting under the oceans; preventing their smaller frames from being tossed around by the vast currents

Tidebreaker's huge exhaust vents help to maintain pressures within the suit's core
She's spinning around, move out of her way...

Designation: Shellback
Chassis: Armiger Warglaive
Piloted by: Patrcocles Hiralden; First son of the Count and heir to the Throne Mechanicum of The Fisher King

Shellback in all his glory!
A nice close up of his wibbly features
I was pleased with his pose, especially the toes which are gripping the large rock on his base
The use of chain feeds and coils implies that once caught by the harpoon, the hapless victim is mercilessly reeled in by the sturdy Knight
Shellback's rather vicious looking drill - presumably used in defence or for carrying out adhoc repairs to underwater  infrastructure
Designation: The Fisher King
Chassis:  Cerastus Knight Lancer
Piloted by: Count Octillus Hiralden; Lord and Master of the Imperial world Corbenic

Count Octillus Hiralden
The Fisher King
Despite having slightly different markings and armament, I think these two Knights look great together!
The individuality of both Knights makes them feel like they have different roles and fighting preferences
When viewed together, you can see that Tidebreaker shares some of The Fisher King's colour scheme whereas Shellback maintains a more basic pattern
When viewed from above, I think the bases really tie in well together
The Fisher King's Trident - because I love it.
Designation: Sacristan Nautolex
Primus of the Corbenicium Mechanicum and Loyal servant of the Court

Designation: The Old Baron
Chassis: Questoris Knight Mageara
Piloted by: 'Mad' Baron Pellinore; Eternal seeker of the Questing Beast

New Armiger Warglaive - Shellback

When the King calls, his knights answer...

Today I wanted to share some images of a companion knight for The Fisher King.  As featured previously, the mighty Lancer piloted by Count Octurius Hiralden is accompanied by two Armiger Warglaives.  One of those Warglaives is Shellback, piloted by the Count's son and heir; Patrocles Hiralden.

Shellback is another highly modified knight chassis - smaller than The Fisher King, Shellback can get into places a Lancer just can't fit!  As with his liege, Shellback has been refitted for underwater operations, defending the colony world's sprawling artificial archipelago from the shoreline and the briny deep...

Shellback packs a heavy punch with an extremely large harpoon launcher which he can use to spear his prey before reeling it in on monstrous chain drives.  Like his father's suit, Patrocle's knight armour is equipped with helm linked manipulator tendrils which can be used to enact swift repairs or manipulate smaller objects on the sea floor.

Whether combatting colossal oceanic beasts in close confines or repairing essential industrial equipment, Shellback's double headed drill arm is just the ticket.

To help stand up to the monstrous force meted out by Corbenic's unusual tidal patterns, Shellback is also equipped with a weighty anchor which can be deployed from the rear of the knight, bracing it against all but the fiercest currents.

He may not be pretty, but defending rigs and island settlements from marauding local fauna takes a toll on the paintwork!
When you have a giant double-headed drill, every problem looks like... A big hole?
Shellback's armour plating is chipped and covered with algae from being constantly submerged
Patrocles proudly displays the Hiralden family heraldry on Shellback's tilt shield
Anchors away!
The chain drive is used to reel in anything unlucky enough to be hit by a 20 foot harpoon - look out SpongeBob...
Even the exhaust housing has been modified for underwater ops
Old moisture processors and maintenance hatches litter the area...
Eat your heart out Captain Nemo!
Additional lamps, portholes and vents are dotted over the hull - essential equipment for any deep sea diver!
One big happy family...
Anyone fancy a swim?

As usual, let me know what you think in the comments section and share my blog if you like what you see! :)
